Safety Glass
Do I need Safety Glass?
Yes, you might need safety glass depending on the application and location. Safety glass is designed to minimize injury when it breaks, making it a crucial choice in areas where human impact is possible, such as doors, windows, shower enclosures, and railings.
At Discount Glass Center, we specialize in providing two superior types of safety glass: Toughened Glass and Laminated Glass.
When is it required?
The shaded areas in below diagram shows the areas in which safety glass must be used. Glass used in these areas must comply with BS 6206.
toughened glass
What is toughened glass?
Toughened glass is strengthened glass where by the glass has been industrially heated and slowly cooled increasing the strength to up to 5 times. If broken the glass will disintegrate into small relatively harmless pieces greatly reducing chance of injury. Reduce the risk of accident by impact, fracture or shattering of the glass.
We can supply toughened safety glass in thickness from 4mm to 19mm normally within 5 working days
Laminated Glass
What is laminated glass?
Laminated glass is a type of safety glass which holds together when shattered. It is 2 or more pieces of glass held together by a polymer interlayer which is made through heat and pressure, which keeps the glass together even when broken.
We can supply laminated safety glass in thickness from 4.4mm to 21.5mm
Building regulations and Standards
Codes and Standards
Safety glass must comply with various international and national codes and standards. Some of the prominent ones include:
European Standards (EN)
- EN 12150: Thermally Toughened Soda Lime Silicate Safety Glass.
